Edukasyon POSIBLE sa Davao Occidental

LOVE IS THE ANSWER. To so many questions arising with the drastic changes brought by the pandemic, LOVE is still the answer. To the passionate leaders of the division who have enliven “Para sa Bata at sa Bayan”, they know, LOVE is really the answer.

Indeed, everyone was caught off guard on the onslaught of the COVID-19 pandemic. It has turned almost everything upside down so that even the ab-normal has turned into the “new normal”. Yet no matter how threatening the virus has gone, it didn’t shake the fervour passion for Education, especially of the DepED Davao Occidental Family.

With the leadership of the Schools Division Superintendent, Dr. Lorenzo E. Mendoza along with his constituents as well as the different government, non-government agencies, and private sectors, the division birthed “Edukasyon POSIBLE sa Davao Occidental”.

Edukasyon POSIBLE that means Province-wide Opportunities for Success Intensified to Boost Learners Education, is a concerted initiative of stakeholders to mitigate negative effects of COVID-19 by providing opportunities that spur learners’ education, thus making education really “Posible” amid the pandemic.

In line with the Learning Continuity Plan and the Edukasyon POSIBLE project, the division launched MAHAL KAYO which means Moving on Against the Health Adversity by Localizing Knowledge-based Actions Yielding Optimism in Education. In this, different programs and activities are conducted to bridge the learning gaps brought by the upsurge of the health crisis, especially with the vulnerability of the basic education sector.

Thus, the division explored the endless possibilities of digital transformation by conducting webinars that seek to up-skill teachers and help them utilize available technology, machine, and processes to the advantage of our learners. Two of the many were the seminars on the use of photos, videos, and soft-wares and Television-based and Radio-based Instruction. Also, parents and stakeholders were oriented and capacitated as to their roles and responsibilities in their children’s education in the new normal setup.

Thankfully, the division is laden with supportive officials who consistently work hand in hand with the department. The different local government units provided printing machines and other printing materials (among others) which greatly helped in turning the division’s visions into reality. In fact, Alternative Learning System’s “Lupad ALS sa Kahanginan” time slot in a radio station is paid for by the LGU.

Given the geographical location of the province, the districts sought for ingenious ways of reaching students both in the highlands and islands. In Sta. Maria East District, specifically in Dona Regina Elementary School where the only means to get into their students houses is to travel by “bangka” (boat), the teachers and stakeholders launched their “Banka-Aralan”. This “Bangka-Aralan” travels the self-learning modules right to the students’ doorstep. While other districts set different hubs or dropping and retrieving points where parents get the SLMs from, others send SLMs by themselves to the highlands—an altruistic act that obviously amplifies “Para sa Bata at sa Bayan”.

All these and other inspiring stories all over the division converged, inspiring the new frontliners—educational leaders to go to greater depths in providing basic quality education for all. Everyone is making a move to make education possible thru the framework LOVE that means Laying Opportunities and Value for Education.

With one vision, one goal, and one heart, Edukasyon POSIBLE sa Davao Occidental.
